Cliff Smith, finding the net here against Edmonton, is a candidate to be captain of the Vancouver Stealth. (Province Files.)
The Vancouver Stealth confirmed Thursday morning that team captain Kyle Sorensen would miss the 2015 National Lacrosse League season due to knee surgery.
Replacing Sorensen on defence will be one thing. Who gets the ‘C’ now is another.
We’re focussing on that for now.
Here are some names to ponder.
The Stealth open their season Jan. 3 on the road against Calgary. Their home opener, at the Langley Events Centre, is Jan. 10 against Toronto Rock. The players start working out in preparation in about a month’s time.
Heart and soul, blood and guts guy. The 29-year-old lefty, who could wind up playing either offence or transition this season, was one of the most consistent guys in last year’s dreary 4-14 Stealth campaign. Seems like the type who wouldn’t be shy about speaking his mind.
Classy veteran should have instant respect in the dressing room. The 33-year-old righty defender is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played. Appears to be a good “lead by example,” type.
He’s carried the franchise offensively for the past couple of years. That certainly garners the 28-year-old righty a measure of respect amongst his peers.
Other names to consider include defenders Matt Beers and Justin Salt, and maybe newcomer defender Rory Smith.
